Compare passport photo specs across countries and documents

A single table where you can pick any two (or three) country/document combinations and see them side-by-side. Every spec sourced from official government documentation — head height in mm and percent, eye line position, background colour, file format/size band, glasses rule, expression rule, last verification date. Especially useful when you're unsure if "passport photo" is interchangeable across the EU (it almost always is for Schengen) or whether your old US photo will work for a Canadian visa (sometimes; the head height bands are slightly different).

How it works

  1. 1Pick the first country and document from the dropdowns.
  2. 2Add up to three more for side-by-side comparison.
  3. 3Read the table; sources and verification dates are linked per cell.

Frequently asked

Where does the spec data come from?

Each spec is sourced from the issuing authority's own documentation (e.g. travel.state.gov for US, gov.uk for UK, EU Council directives for Schengen). Each row shows the source URL and the date we last verified the rule against the live page.

How often is the data refreshed?

Every spec is re-verified at least once per quarter. The "last verified" date is shown next to each row so you can judge freshness at a glance. We re-verify out-of-cycle when a national authority announces a rule change.

Can I export the comparison?

Yes — copy as Markdown, CSV, or share a permanent link that encodes your selection in the URL. Useful for travel-agency briefs and consular forms.
