Document photo FAQ

Answers to common questions about document photos and the Anfas.Pro service. Search by keyword or jump by topic; for a specific document, each page has its own FAQ.

01Photo requirements

What size does the photo need to be?

It depends on the country and document: the USA uses 2×2 in (51×51 mm); most of Europe and the Schengen area use 35×45 mm. The exact size for your case is on each document page, and there is a by-country overview in passport photo size by country.

What background should it have?

Usually a plain, light background — white or light grey, with no shadows or patterns. The exact shade varies by country — see background colour by country.

Can I wear glasses?

The trend is against glasses: the USA banned them in 2016, and most other authorities allow them only with no glare and no tint. The safest choice is to remove them. Details: glasses in document photos.

Can I smile in the photo?

No — you need a neutral expression with your mouth closed and eyes open; a broad smile gets rejected. Why: neutral expression explained.

Are head coverings allowed (hijab, turban)?

Head coverings worn for religious or medical reasons are usually allowed, as long as the full face is visible from chin to forehead. Details and exceptions: head coverings in document photos.

02How to take the photo

How do I take a document photo at home with my phone?

Daylight from a window, a plain light wall, the camera at eye level about 1.5 m away, a neutral expression — then crop to the format. Step by step: document photo at home with your phone.

Can I use a selfie?

A normal arm’s-length selfie usually fails: the front camera distorts your facial proportions. How to do it right (rear camera, tripod): can you use a selfie.

How do I avoid a rejected photo?

The most common causes are shadows, wrong size, smiling, glasses glare, a busy background, and an old or edited photo. A problem→fix checklist: why photos get rejected.

How do I take a photo of a baby or child?

Photograph the child alone, with a neutral expression on a light background; a baby can be laid on a white sheet and shot from above. Details: baby and child document photos.

03The Anfas.Pro service

How does Anfas.Pro work and what do I get?

You upload an ordinary selfie — the tool crops it to the exact country/document spec and gives you a ready file (for printing and for online upload). On digital requirements: digital photo specs (px, KB).

How much does it cost?

€4.99 for a finished set, no subscription — you pay only when you download the result, and retakes are free. Compared with a booth or a studio: how much a document photo costs.

Is an online photo legitimate — will it be accepted?

Yes — authorities care that the photo meets the spec, not who made it; many portals even require a digital photo. In depth: are online passport photos accepted.

Can I print the photo at home?

Yes, if you need a paper copy: photo paper, ~300 DPI, the exact physical size, a clean straight cut. How to do it right: printing document photos at home.

04Acceptance & rejections

Will my Anfas.Pro photo definitely be accepted?

No service can guarantee acceptance — the final decision is always the issuing authority’s. What we guarantee is that the photo we produce matches the spec we publish for that country and document, traced to an official source on every page.

What happens if my photo is rejected?

Compare the rejection reason with our spec. If the mistake was on our side, we refund the full amount and fix the page. If the problem was the source shot (out of focus, low light), retake it using this checklist and run it through the tool again.

How recent must the photo be?

Most authorities require a photo from the last 6 months (the UK requires the last month). Retake it if you changed your hairstyle, gained or lost weight, or started wearing glasses. Details: how recent the photo must be.

My country is not listed. Can you add it?

Write to hello@anfas.pro with the country and document. We add profiles in priority order based on real demand; your request raises that country’s priority.

05Payment & privacy

Which payment methods do you accept?

Card payments via our payment provider (Stripe). VAT receipts are issued automatically for EU customers. There is no subscription — you pay only when you download a finished photo.

Do you store my uploaded photos?

We process the upload in memory to produce the final file and delete the original after delivery. How to keep your documents safe online in general: document photo data privacy.
