In short. For printed Georgian documents, a passport and ID card require a 35 × 45 mm photo, while a residence permit needs 30 × 40 mm, on a white background, with a neutral expression and no glasses. For the e-Visa at evisa.gov.ge, you upload a digital colour photo in JPEG on a light background — the portal does not publish strict pixel requirements, but services prepare images to the 472 × 591 px standard.

Short answer

Georgia uses two photo formats. For printed documents the printed standard applies: an international passport and a citizen's ID card require 35 × 45 mm, and a residence permit requires 30 × 40 mm. For the electronic visa on the evisa.gov.ge portal, you upload a digital colour photo in JPEG format on a light background.

e-Visa (evisa.gov.ge)

The application is entirely online in three steps: submit the application, pay, and receive the visa. The state portal itself does not publish strict pixel or kilobyte limits — it requires a high-quality, colour, recent photo on a light plain background with a neutral expression, with the face directly toward the camera. According to the official requirements, the head must take up 50–70% of the frame height. Specialist services prepare the image to the common working standard:

Size (pixels)472 × 591 px
File formatJPEG (JPG)
Backgroundwhite / light plain colour
Head in frame50–70% of height

If the official source does not publish a separate numerical rule, follow the requirement of 50–70% for the head height and overall image quality.

Passport and ID card

  • Size: 35 × 45 mm.
  • Background: white or a light plain colour, with no shadows.
  • Expression: neutral, mouth closed, eyes open and clearly visible.
  • Glasses: removed; allowed only for medical reasons, without glare or tinting.
  • Headwear: only for religious or medical reasons, with supporting evidence.
  • Age: the last 6 months.

Applications are submitted at the House of Justice (Public Service Hall) or a territorial office of PSDA (Public Service Development Agency, sda.gov.ge). The photo can be taken on site (around 5 GEL). An international passport can also be issued at a Georgian consulate.

Residence permit

A residence permit (temporary and permanent) is issued through PSDA. The photo is submitted in 30 × 40 mm (3 × 4 cm) format on a white background with a neutral expression — this is a smaller format than for a passport or ID card.

Common reasons for refusal

  • A coloured, dark or patterned background instead of a white/light plain one.
  • Glasses with glare or tinted lenses.
  • A smile, open mouth, or a tilted or turned head.
  • Shadows on the face or behind the head, uneven lighting.
  • A head that is too large or too small in the frame (outside the 50–70% range for the e-Visa).
  • A photo older than 6 months or with filters/retouching.

How to prepare it quickly

The Anfas.Pro service automatically crops the face to the required format (35 × 45 mm for a passport/ID or 30 × 40 mm for a residence permit), sets a white background and checks the file against Georgia's e-Visa and passport requirements, delivering a ready image to upload or print.
