Key points
5 points- Decentralised Administration of Attica: four recent colour passport-sized photos, 40 x 60 mm, no frame, high resolution, white background, neutral expression.
- The same photos are also submitted on a compact disk (CD) in JPEG 2000 format; card fee €16 (e-Paravolo, code 2119).
- Piraeus and Islands office: face photo of 4 x 6 cm in four copies saved on a CD, with the €16 receipt, at the biometric appointment.
- Other routes ask for the Greek passport photo standard — JPEG 2000 on a CD or USB stick.
- Online renewal for beneficiaries of international protection: a digital Greek-passport-type photograph of up to 2 MB.
Greece collects biometric data for the residence permit card, and several offices publish their own photo lines. They agree on the idea — a recent colour photo in the Greek passport style, in print and as a digital file — but not always on the size.
What the offices list
| Office | Photo requirement |

| Decentralised Administration of Attica (dependent employment and other listed permits) | Four recent colour passport-sized photographs, 40 x 60 mm without a frame, high resolution, white background, neutral expression; also on a CD in JPEG 2000 format; card fee €16 (e-Paravolo, code 2119) |
| Directorate for Aliens and Migration, Southern Sector, Piraeus and Islands | Original valid passport, a passport-style face photograph of 4 x 6 cm in four copies saved on a CD, and the electronic fee of €16 (code 2119) with the printed receipt |

Biometric data collection applies to minors as well; fingerprints are not taken from children under 6.
The Greek passport photo standard
The National Passport Center page “Passport Photograph” (updated 10 July 2026) is the reference several of the permit pages point to:
- A recent colour photograph taken within the last six months, to ICAO document 9303.
- The whole face clear from jaw to forehead and from one ear to the other; no shadows on the background or face, no sheen, no other person or object.
- Looking straight at the lens, neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open (not wide open).
- Sunglasses and photochromic lenses prohibited; hair not covering the eyes, eyebrows or face; glasses only if usually worn, clean and transparent, with no reflection.
- Head covering only for religious reasons, with the face from jaw to forehead and ear to ear visible.
- Background uniform, light, preferably gray with an RGB value of (190;190;190) ± 10; head rotation less than ± 5 degrees; shoulders straight.
- From the base of the shoulders to the top of the hair the person covers 70–75 % of the photo; the distance from chin to top of the forehead is 50–60 %.
Because the Attica line says white and the passport centre says light gray, follow the page your office links to. Our Greece residence permit photo tool prepares the 40 x 60 mm version.
