Malta-specific things to know
- Malta photographs most adults at the Passport Office, so the printed-photo rules apply only to minors under 14, people without a valid Maltese e-ID card (not living in Malta) and people unable to attend.
- The Maltese photo is 40 mm high × 30 mm wide, a narrow format, with the face at 70–80 % of the height and a plain white background.
- Only original prints are accepted — no copies, scans, slot-machine or heat-sensitive photographs — and retouching of any kind is refused.
- Head coverings need the authority's approval, with a signed statement for a religious item worn daily, and dark or tinted glasses need a medical certificate.

- Identità Malta, passport photograph guidance: photographs are required for minors under fourteen, for persons who do not hold a valid Maltese e-ID card because they do not reside in Malta, and for applicants unable to call in person at the Passport Office because of health, old age or sickness; if the photos do not meet the requirements the application is considered incomplete or turned down; photographs are kept for record purposes and are not returned.
