Mexico-specific things to know
- Since the July 2025 guidelines the photograph requirement is removed from consular visa procedures: the consulate takes the face photograph itself with the iris and fingerprints. Where a consulate page still lists a print, ask before you print.
- The e-Visa file has a floor and a ceiling — 2 to 5 MB — unusually heavy for a photo, and the background must be white like the passport photo; glasses are not allowed.
- Where a print is asked, the size is written in two ways — 39 × 31 mm (height × width) or 2 × 2 inches — and nothing is said of the head size.

- Diario Oficial de la Federación, 25 July 2025, general guidelines for the issuing of visas: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will build «expedientes digitalizados, recabando datos biométricos, electrónicos y con certificado digital, eliminando de los trámites de solicitud de visa ante los consulados el requisito de fotografía y la presentación de copias» (digitised files, collecting biometric and electronic data with a digital certificate, removing the photograph and copies from visa applications at consulates). The consulate must allow the taking of biometric data, «que incluyen fotografía del rostro, iris y huellas dactilares», by electronic means.
- Same guidelines, Electronic Visa, requirement III: «Fotografía digital del rostro de la persona solicitante sin lentes, con fondo blanco similar a la foto del pasaporte o documento de identidad y viaje, en formato .jpg, .jpeg o .png, y con peso de 2 a 5 MB»; requirement IV: the image of the passport or travel document data page in .jpg, .jpeg or .png and 2 to 5 MB, within the parameters of the page and clearly visible; travel to Mexico by air. The Consulate in Omaha publishes the same text with a fee of 54.00 USD.
- Consulate of Mexico in Boston, visas page: «Traiga una fotografía tamaño pasaporte a color (39 x 31 mm o 2 x 2 pulgadas, de frente, sin lentes y con fondo blanco)» — bring a passport-size colour photograph (39 × 31 mm or 2 × 2 inches, from the front, without glasses and on a white background); the application is signed before a consular officer and the fee is paid in cash.
