Netherlands-specific things to know
- The IND is the only place that photographs an adult applicant — a photo taken by a photographer is not accepted, so there is nothing to print and bring to the appointment.
- The IND photo is taken against a light grey background, and white or light grey clothing is discouraged because the photo may turn out wrong.
- Only for a child under 2 does the applicant send a photographer's photograph with the appendix form, and then the Dutch ID photo rules of Government.nl apply.

What the source confirms
- IND, biometrics appointment: the IND needs a photo, signature and fingerprints for the residence document; you can book the appointment only after you have received a letter from the IND (a letter of receipt for the application, or a letter saying the IND needs the biometrics); an appointment booked before the letter is cancelled.
- Same page: at the desk or service point the IND takes a digital passport photo and the fingerprints; the IND does not accept photos taken elsewhere by a photographer; providing biometrics is free of charge, and an expat centre may charge an additional fee; the places named are the IND desks in Amsterdam, Den Haag, Haarlem, 's-Hertogenbosch and Zwolle, the expat centres in Enschede, Utrecht and Maastricht, and the IND service points in Goes and Nijmegen.
