Crop a photo to 35 × 45 mm — Norway national id card

For this document the photo is taken by the office, not by you

This is not a document where you bring or upload your own portrait: the photo is taken where the application is filed. Norwegian Police still publishes what the portrait has to look like, and those numbers are on this page — but meeting them in a file of your own does not replace that visit.

Where these numbers come from

Source: Norwegian Police. Last checked against the official page on 2026-05-17.

What the source confirms
  • Norwegian passport and national ID-card applications use an authority-capture route.
  • The Norwegian Police handles passport and national ID-card appointments.
  • UDI photo-quality rules are used across visas, residence permits, travel documents, passports and national ID cards.
  • The facial image should be current, front-facing and evenly lit.
  • This page remains official-general because applicants do not normally supply a reusable print photo.

What the cropper is still good for here

It will not produce the official photo for this document. It is here for the neighbouring jobs: a portrait for the application form, a copy for your own records, or another Norway document that does accept a photo you prepared yourself.

The document requires: 35 × 45 mm · Head height 70–80%

The photo is cropped in your browser. It is not uploaded to a server and we do not store it.

How to crop it, in three steps

  1. Upload a photo taken face-on, in even light
  2. Move the photo until the eyes sit on the guide line and the head fills 70–80%
  3. Save the 35 × 45 mm result — print it or attach it to the application
