Do you need a new photo after a shave?
Normally no, and this is worth getting right because a needless reshoot costs money. The US State Department names what does count as a significant change of appearance: facial surgery or trauma, and adding or removing numerous or large piercings and tattoos. It says explicitly that growing a beard — or colouring your hair — does not qualify. Shave, grow it back, and the photo still shows the face the system matches on.
Very long beards and chin geometry
A beard long enough to fall well below the chin can hide the chin contour from automated geometry detection.
