The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic has one page with the photo rules for foreigners, and Czech embassies add practical details. Here are the Czech Schengen visa photo requirements in one place.

The ministry’s rules

  • Size 35 x 45 mm.
  • Your current appearance, full-face view.
  • From the eyes to the bottom of the chin at least 13 mm.
  • Civil clothes, no sunglasses (except for blind people).
  • No head cover, except for religious or health reasons; then it must not prevent identification.

The ministry says a photo must be submitted for a visa application to be accepted. It cites the EU Visa Code and the Czech Act No 326/1999 Coll. on the residence of foreign nationals.

Fingerprints and passport

The Embassy in Cairo says fingerprints are given in person at the first visa application and in general not again for the next 59 months; the Visa Code exempts children under 12. The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and be valid at least three months after the planned stay.

04Questions

5 answers
01What size is a Czech Schengen visa photo?

35 x 45 mm. The Consulate General in Los Angeles also accepts 2 x 2 inch.

02What does "eyes to chin at least 13 mm" mean?

The distance from the eyes to the bottom of the chin in the photo must be at least 13 mm, so the face is not too small.

03Can I wear glasses or a head cover?

No sunglasses, except for blind people. A head cover only for religious or health reasons, and it must not prevent identification.

04Should I staple the photo to the form?

No. The Embassy in Cairo asks for the photo to be glued, not stapled; Los Angeles asks to glue it in the upper right corner of the first page.

05How old can the photo be?

Embassies such as Cairo ask for a photo not older than 6 months that shows your current appearance.

National D visa photo requirements: set by each country, not the EU

A type D visa photo is governed by the national laws of the specific country, not the EU Visa Code: the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for example, requires a 35x45 mm size with a 32–36 mm face height.
