What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: light grey
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glasses in the frame. This document does not accept them at all — take them off and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 413 × 531 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.
Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one

- Italian electronic ID card photo guidance requires a 35 × 45 mm photo.
- The photo must not be retouched, coloured or manipulated, and must not be cropped to remove the background or straighten the head.
- The full head and top of the shoulders must be visible, with the face covering 70-80% of the photo height.
- The frontal crop must show both earlobes; the official wording does not require every part of both ears to be uncovered.
- The expression must be neutral, mouth closed and eyes clearly visible and open.
