Belize-specific things to know

  • Belize asks for a square 2 × 2 inch photograph (51 × 51 mm) with both ears showing — not the 35 × 45 mm ICAO size.
  • Black-and-white photographs are not acceptable, the chest must be covered and clothing must contrast with the white background.
  • Glasses, tinted shades and sunglasses are all ruled out — the page does not make an exception for prescription glasses.

How passport photos are verified

The Belize Ministry of Immigration asks for one photo when you renew or apply for a new passport: «actual photo size of 2 inches × 2 inches», «less than 6 months old», in «high quality colour showing natural skin tones» — black-and-white photos are not acceptable, on «a white background» with «a contrast between image and background (no white shirt on a white background)». The photo «shows a close-up of the applicant's head and top of the shoulders», the face «looking directly at the camera with both ears showing», the head «a maximum of 80 % of the photo (1.41 in) and a minimum of 70 % (1.25 in)», «in the center of the picture with a clear gap around the sides and top of the head, hair included». «Open eyes (no squinting), mouth closed, a neutral expression (no smiling or frowning)», eyes visible with no hair across the face or eyes, «no glasses, tinted shades or sunglasses», minimal facial jewellery, no sleeveless shirts or tank tops (the chest covered), no camouflage tops or military or government uniforms, and no head coverings except for religious, cultural or medical justification. The photo must be in focus, with no red eye or reflected light on the face, «a true image, not altered in any way», lit uniformly without shadows, and printed on high-quality paper at high resolution.

How to take it

How to take your Belize passport photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain white

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 51 × 51 mm.

Glasses

Glasses prohibited

Take them off before the shot.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
