Seychelles-specific things to know

  • In Seychelles the passport photograph is taken at enrolment together with the fingerprints and the signature — there is no application form and no photograph to bring.
  • Overseas enrolment is possible only at three missions (Paris, Abu Dhabi, London), after the old passport is verified in Seychelles, and the new passport comes by courier about three weeks after the old one is received.
  • A printed photograph is asked for only for the ID card renewal from overseas, with the back notarised by a licensed notary public.

How passport photos are verified

Since November 2022 the Seychelles passport is biometric, and «the process does not require an application form»: applicants «present themselves at the enrolment office and present the appropriate documents to the customer service agent», pay at the cashier, and «upon completion of payment applicants submit their bio-data: photograph, fingerprints and digital signature are taken»; the passport can be collected 72 hours (three working days) after enrolment. For Seychellois students and the diaspora the enrolment is done abroad at a designated station — the Seychelles embassies in Paris and Abu Dhabi and the High Commission in London — after the old passport has been verified by the immigration office in Seychelles; the captured biometrics go electronically to Victoria and the passport returns by courier about three weeks later. «The biometric passport requires the applicant to be present for collection of bio-data», so there is no online application. A printed passport-size photograph appears only for the national ID card: a Seychellois overseas renewing it sends «a recent passport-sized photo taken according to Seychelles passport photo requirements» with the back notarised by a licensed notary public. The pages publish no size, background or head rules for the passport photograph, because it is taken for you.

Typical rejection reasons and how to fix them

Typical reasons a photo is rejected under the rules Immigration and Civil Status Department of Seychelles publishes: what is wrong and what to change.

ReasonFix
Applying online or by post for a biometric passport (the applicant must be present for the collection of bio-data) Attending the enrolment office, or an overseas enrolment station, in person.
A passport-size photograph for the ID card renewal that is not recent, not according to the passport photo requirements, or whose back is not notarised A recent passport-size photograph with the back notarised by a licensed notary public.
Bringing a printed photograph for the passport (none is asked for — the photograph is taken at enrolment) Attending enrolment with the identity documents only.

How to take it

How to take your Seychelles passport photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain light

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.

What the source confirms
  • Immigration and Civil Status Department, «Applying for a Seychelles Passport»: the biometric passport was introduced in November 2022 with a microchip; the process does not require an application form; applicants present themselves at the enrolment office with the documents (renewal: the old passport and the National Identity Number card; first time: the National Identity Number card); after vetting and payment at the cashier the photograph, fingerprints and digital signature are taken; the passport may be collected 72 hours (three working days) after enrolment.
  • Same page, overseas applicants (Seychellois students and the diaspora): renewal starts by sending a copy of the passport to the Senior Immigration Officer of the Passport Section in Seychelles for verification; the applicant is then told to enrol at the designated enrolment station — the Seychelles embassies in Paris and Abu Dhabi and the High Commission in London — with the old passport, and pays the equivalent of SR 750 by bank transfer; the captured biometric information is sent electronically to immigration headquarters in Victoria and the passport is returned by courier three weeks after the receipt of the expired or expiring passport; for minor children a birth certificate is needed.
  • Department FAQ, «Seychelles Bio-Metric Passport»: the biometric passport requires the applicant to be present for the collection of bio-data during enrolment, so an online application is not possible; a Seychellois abroad whose passport expired can get an Emergency Travel Document valid six months to return to Seychelles.
  • Department, «National Identity Card»: a Seychellois living overseas who renews the ID card sends a notarised passport photo — a recent passport-sized photo taken according to Seychelles passport photo requirements, with the back notarised by a licensed notary public — the expired ID card and a letter to the Chief Civil Status Officer, by post; persons below the age of 16 do not have their photo taken for the ID card.
