Suriname-specific things to know

  • The Civil Registry Office marks the photograph «not obligatory» in every case it lists — a new, lost, damaged or renewed passport and a minor's passport.
  • For a baby a photograph is «advisable» though not obligatory.
  • The e-passport (25 April 2025) collects biometric data at the application, which is why the print is not required at the CBB.

How passport photos are verified

For a Surinamese passport applied for in Suriname the Civil Registry Office (CBB) lists «1 photograph (not obligatory)» among the documents for a new passport, for a lost one (with a police statement), for a damaged one and for a renewal («photographs (not obligatory)»), together with the ID card, the old passport where there is one and, for a first passport of someone born abroad, the birth certificate with an apostille; for a minor of 17 or younger the page says «photograph: not obligatory, but advisable in the case of a baby». The Law on Travel Documents, approved on 17 May 2022 and in force since 2 May 2025, introduced travel documents with biometric data and electronic features, and the CBB announced that Suriname introduced the electronic passport (e-passport) on 25 April 2025. Children under 12 need not give fingerprints but must be present at the application; the fee is SRD 2,100 for a national passport (from 18 years) and SRD 1,365 for children up to 17, paid by card at the POS terminal or by bank transfer or deposit after an ARN number from the district office; the average waiting time is stated on the page. No size or other photograph rule is published.

How to take it

How to take your Suriname passport photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain light

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.

Where to submit your passport application

A Surinamese passport is applied for in person at one of the application locations of the Civil Registry Office (the e-passport locations), with the ID card and, if wished, one photograph — not obligatory — and the fee; through a Surinamese consulate abroad the consulate's own list applies.
