Austria-specific things to know
- The residence permit page writes the size as 45 × 35 mm (height × width) and limits the age to «half a year»; the BMI criteria give the same photo as 35 mm wide and 45 mm high.
- Black-and-white photos are not accepted for the residence permit, and a first application is made in person — abroad at the Austrian representation before entry, or in Austria at the settlement authority.
- The permit is collected in person within six months, and the application fee is 218 euros.

What the source confirms
- oesterreich.gv.at, Niederlassungsbewilligung (translated from the German, updated 5 August 2026), required documents: a valid travel document (for example a passport); a photo that is not older than half a year (size 45 × 35 mm); proof of the legal claim to a customary accommodation, such as tenancy agreements, preliminary contracts or proof of ownership; proof of health insurance covering all risks; proof of secure means of living — proofs of social benefits to which a claim arises only with the grant of the permit are not suitable; further documents may be required in individual cases; the application fee is 218 euros.
