Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one
China-specific things to know
- China gives the work permit photo as a file — a JPG of 40–120 KB, 354 × 472 to 420 × 560 pixels, 24-bit colour, on white and frameless — more than as a print; the 33 × 48 mm print size is named on the visa and residence-permit routes.
- The file rules are narrow in both directions: a JPG below 40 KB or above 120 KB, or a picture outside 354 × 472 to 420 × 560 pixels, does not fit the stated range.
- Hats and headscarves are «not recommended», with an exception only for religious reasons and only if the whole face stays uncovered; the pages read are those of Beijing and the State Council, and other cities may add their own wording.

What the source confirms
- Beijing Municipal People's Government, work permit for foreigners — the photo: a bareheaded and full-faced photo of the applicant taken within the past six months; a bareheaded electronic photo taken recently, with a white background, frameless, with complete facial features, clear and free of spots, flaws or ink defects; made into a JPG file of 40K–120K with a resolution no lower than 354 (W) × 472 (H) pixels and no higher than 420 (W) × 560 (H), in 24-bit true colour; hats or headscarves are not recommended, and if the applicant has to wear one for religious reasons it must not cover the entire face.
- Same pages, other materials: the information page of the applicant's passport or international travel document, the period of validity of which shall not be less than 6 months; the information page of the valid visa or residence permit; the application form with the employer's official seal uploaded to the system; certifying documents on working qualifications and, on the spouse route, certifying materials for the family relationship; after prequalification the originals are brought to the window by appointment.
