What kind of photo fits into 100 KB?
A document portrait does, with room to spare: 600×600 px or 413×531 px at readable quality stays well under the cap. A full-frame phone shot does not, so the tool lowers the JPEG quality first and reduces the pixel size only if the limit is still out of reach.
The form says “max 100 kb” and still rejects my file. Why?
Some forms count a kilobyte as 1000 bytes, so their limit is 100,000 bytes rather than the 102,400 this page targets. If your result sits right on the line, compress it once more with a smaller target. A form can also refuse a file for its pixel size or format — no amount of compression fixes that.
Why does the tool keep the file above 50 KB?
50 KB is the lowest minimum several portals publish, and a portrait squeezed far below it starts to show blocks around the eyes and hair. The 50–100 KB band keeps you under the limit without giving away detail you were allowed to keep.
