What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: фон должен быть однотонным светлым: светло-серый или светло-голубой; белый фон запрещён
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glare on the lenses. Take the glasses off or turn away from the light source and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 413 × 531 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.
Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one

Where these numbers come from
Source: Service-Public.fr / Ministère de l’Intérieur. Last checked against the official page on 2026-05-17.
- Service-Public says a passport or national-ID photo must be less than 6 months old and similar to the current face.
- The official format is 35 × 45 mm, with the face measuring 32-36 mm from chin to crown, excluding hair.
- The background must be plain and light-coloured; Service-Public explicitly states that a white background is prohibited.
- The head must be straight and the face directed at the camera, with a neutral expression and closed mouth.
- Hair must not cover the face; a fringe may be accepted only if it does not cover the eyes, and ears must be clear.
