Germany-specific things to know
- The number is the centre's own: one at the German missions in the USA, two at VFS India and Saudi Arabia — in Saudi Arabia one is fixed to the form and one is loose.
- The official sheet requires a monochromatic background free of shadows with clear contrast to the face and hair — not specifically white; the visa centres write white or bright.
- The face is 70–80 % of the photo height on a 35 × 45 mm photo, and head coverings are accepted only for religious reasons; children under 6 have wider exceptions.

What the source confirms
- German missions in the USA, «Schengen visa General Information» (April 2025): the application includes «One (1) recent biometric passport photo (35 x 45 mm; see specimen photos)», the application form with barcodes and a signed declaration, a signed passport valid at least 3 months beyond the stay with 2 blank pages and issued within 10 years, proof of address, confirmed flights and travel health insurance.
- Ministry of the Interior photo sheet (October 2024), main requirements: the photo should show the face from the tip of the chin to the top of the head, both halves clearly recognisable, the face taking up 70–80 % of the height of the photo; the face evenly lit without reflections and without red eyes; the head centred and straight; all parts sharp with high contrast; the background monochromatic and free of shadows, in clear contrast to the face and hair; colours, especially skin tone, accurate and digital photos in colour; the expression neutral, looking directly into the camera with the mouth closed; the eyes clearly visible, not covered by hair or too-dark or reflecting lenses.
- Same sheet, head coverings and children: head coverings only for religious reasons — the face visible from the tip of the chin to the forehead and no shadows on the face; children: the face takes up 50–80 % of the height, with minor deviations allowed for children aged 10 and younger; a front shot is required and for children aged 6 and younger other exceptions on head position, expression and visibility of eyes; exceptions otherwise only for long-term medical reasons.
