Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one
Latvia-specific things to know
- Latvia takes the photograph at the PMLP division free of charge, so the usual route needs no printed photo.
- A salon photograph must carry the studio's stamp and date on the back and be at most three months old; a photo-booth («snapshot cabin») photograph is invalid.
- The page names no size in millimetres and sends you to the regulations «On the Personal Identification Documents» for the rest of the requirements.

What the source confirms
- PMLP, identity-document photographs: photographs of both children and adults are taken at the divisions on the spot without an additional fee.
- Same page, children: if a passport is processed for a child, the parents must evaluate whether their child will be able to sit alone or agree to be photographed at that moment; otherwise special photo cards must be submitted for a passport.
- Same page, photographs from a salon: if you do not wish to be photographed at the division on the spot, you can submit a photograph from a photo-salon when applying for a new personal identification document; only photographs made at professional photo-salons can be used for passports, confirmed by the photo-salon's stamp and date on the other side of the photograph; the photograph cannot be older than 3 months and must meet the other requirements specified in the regulations «On the Personal Identification Documents»; photographs made at snapshot cabins are invalid.
