What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: plain light
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glasses in the frame. This document does not accept them at all — take them off and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one

Philippines-specific things to know
- Background was BLUE pre-2019; current ePassport requires plain WHITE
- Domestic applications: DFA captures photo on-site (no printed photo needed)
- Overseas applications via consulate: applicants supply printed photo
- September 2025 ICAO update: prescription glasses no longer accepted

What the source confirms
- Philippine passport applicants do not need to bring a passport-sized photo for normal passport applications.
- The DFA Consular Office digitally captures the applicant’s photo and biometrics.
- The capture pose must be frontal, looking directly at the camera, with no head rotation or tilt.
- Expression should be neutral, both eyes open and mouth closed; a closed-mouth “Mona Lisa” smile is tolerated in capture guidance.
- Eyeglasses should always be removed before photo capture; contact lenses that change natural eye colour should also be removed.

It will not produce the official photo for this document. It is here for the neighbouring jobs: a portrait for the application form, a copy for your own records, or another Philippines document that does accept a photo you prepared yourself.
