Ghana-specific things to know

  • The pages ask for a «standard passport size» photograph and give no millimetres; the printed size and the number of photographs are the mission's own. The only figures written are the six-month age limit and, at Toronto, the upload of 140 × 170 pixels and 1 MB.
  • A witness has to certify the photograph as a true likeness of the applicant (Madrid, Toronto); the certification is made on the printed photograph.
  • The background is white or off-white, in colour; «dark glasses» and hats are excluded, while head coverings are allowed only for religious or medical reasons with the face uncovered.

How visa photos are verified

The Ghana visa photograph is described on the pages of the Ghana embassies and consulates: one standard passport-size photograph, taken full face on a plain background within six months of the application, printed in colour, with a white or off-white background, without dark glasses or hat. The face looks straight at the camera with a plain expression and the mouth closed, the eyes open and visible, no hair in front of the eyes and nothing covering the face; a head covering is allowed only for religious or medical reasons.

The Embassy in Madrid and the Consulate General in Toronto add that the photograph should be certified as a true likeness of the applicant by the witness, and Toronto, which takes the application online, asks for an uploaded image of 140 × 170 pixels and no more than 1 MB. The Embassy in Berne writes the same in shorter form: one recent colour photograph, full face, without hat, cap or sunglasses.

How to take it

How to take your Ghana visa photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain white

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
