Lithuania-specific things to know

  • Lithuania gives the width as «35–40mm» rather than a fixed 35 × 45 mm, and does not name a number of photographs.
  • The guidelines ask for a «colour neutral» photograph — natural skin tones, uniform lighting, no flash reflections — and a «plain light-coloured background» rather than a white one.
  • The guidelines illustrate each fault with a picture — too close, too far away, blurred, ink marked or creased, looking away, too dark, too light, washed out colour, pixelated, hair across the eyes, eyes closed, portrait style, tilted, busy background, not centred, shadows, red eye.

How Schengen visa photos are verified

For a Lithuanian Schengen visa the Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists «a colour photo corresponding to the age of an applicant (Photograph Guidelines)» with the completed and signed application form, the travel document, the visa fee and the supporting documents. The linked guidelines (Annex A) say the photographs must be «no more than 6-months old» and «35–40mm in width», a «close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70–80% of the photograph», in sharp focus, of high quality with no ink marks or creases, printed on high-quality paper at high resolution. They must show the applicant «looking directly at the camera», with natural skin tones, with «a plain light-coloured background» and uniform lighting with no shadows or flash reflections and no red eye, both edges of the face clearly visible and no hair across the eyes. Glasses must show the eyes clearly with no reflection or tinted lenses and frames that do not cover any part of the eyes; head coverings are not permitted except for religious reasons, with the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead clear; the applicant is alone, with a neutral expression and the mouth closed. The travel document must be valid for at least three months after the intended departure, have two blank pages and have been issued within the previous ten years.

How to take it

How to take your Lithuania Schengen visa photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain light

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
