Morocco-specific things to know

  • The official pages word the background differently: the document list says blue, white or light grey, the portal's photo sheet says sky blue or light grey. Sky blue or light grey satisfies both.
  • Glasses are allowed only with clear lenses; tinted lenses and thick frames must be removed, and the glasses must not reflect light. They are not compulsory in the photo.
  • The face must be visible from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead; decorative hats and caps are not allowed.
  • Small children are photographed alone — an accompanying person must not appear — and, unlike adults, need not have a neutral expression or look into the camera, though they must face it.

How passport photos are verified

Moroccan passport photographs are set on passeport.ma, the official portal of the Moroccan passport. The list of documents asks for one recent identity photograph, 35 × 45 mm, showing the applicant from the front with the whole face clearly visible, on a blue, white or light grey background.

The portal's own «Normes pour les photographies» sheet is stricter on the colour: a plain background of sky blue or light grey, with no shadows. The photo is sharp, without stains or ink marks, in colour, well exposed and contrasted, without flash marks, red eyes or shadows on the face, and it reproduces the skin tone faithfully.

The face is centred, the head straight and facing the lens, the expression neutral with the mouth closed. Only clear lenses are accepted — tinted lenses and thick frames must come off — glasses are not compulsory, and the face must be visible from chin to forehead, with no decorative hats or caps.

Typical rejection reasons and how to fix them

Typical reasons a photo is rejected under the rules passeport.ma — official Moroccan passport portal publishes: what is wrong and what to change.

ReasonFix
Background not plain, not sky blue or light grey, or with shadows Use a plain sky-blue or light-grey background with no shadows behind you.
Tinted lenses, thick frames, or light reflections on the glasses Take the glasses off — they are not compulsory — or wear clear lenses in a light frame that does not reflect or cover the eyes.
Face not fully visible from chin to forehead, or a decorative hat or cap Remove hats and caps and keep every part of the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead in view.
Blurred photo, stains or ink marks, flash marks, red eyes, shadows on the face, or a wrong skin tone Print a sharp, clean colour photo, well exposed and contrasted, shot without flash and with soft light so the face has no shadows.
Face not centred, head not straight, gaze away from the lens, or an expression that is not neutral Centre the face, hold the head straight, fix the lens and keep the mouth closed with no smile, eyes normally open.
Child photographed with another person or an object in the picture Photograph the child alone, facing the camera; if someone has to hold the child, that person must not appear in the photo.

How to take it

How to take your Morocco passport photo correctly

Background and light

Background: light grey or light blue

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
