North Macedonia-specific things to know

  • The Macedonian pages give the short-stay photograph as 3.5 × 4.5 cm in colour on a white background and the long-stay one as 35 × 45 mm — the same size in two spellings.
  • The white background is named only in the short-stay list, together with a clearly visible face.

How visa photos are verified

For a short-stay visa of up to 90 days («C» visa), or a transit visa of up to 5 days, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia lists «photography (size 3.5 × 4.5 cm) in colour with white background where the face of the applicant is clearly visible», together with a travel document valid at least three months beyond the stay, travel insurance, a notarised warranty or invitation letter, proof of sufficient resources, proof of the paid fees (60 euros, 35 euros for children aged 6–12) and a neatly filled-out visa application. For a long-stay visa the application procedure asks for «one photograph, size 35 × 45 mm», in the documentation of a travel document issued in the last 10 years with at least two empty pages. The pages publish no head size, file format or other face rules.

How to take it

How to take your North Macedonia visa photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain white

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 35 × 45 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
