Venezuela-specific things to know

  • Venezuela asks for a «carnet-size» photo on a white background, attached as an image file — no size in millimetres or pixels is given.
  • The portal button «finish the procedure» stays disabled until the mandatory documents, the photo among them, are attached.

How visa photos are verified

For a Venezuelan tourist visa applied for through the Cancillería Digital portal the user manual of February 2026 lists among the documents «a carnet-size photo, white background» — next to the passport, the application form and the application letter, the first three marked as mandatory — and says «you must attach the photo in image format». The steps in the portal are: create the request at the Consular Relations Office, register the procedure, attach the documents, finish the procedure, issue the request, confirm the payment method and receive the notification of the approved procedure; «you can only finish the procedure if you have attached the mandatory documents». The manual gives no size in millimetres or pixels, no file limit and no head or glasses rule; the text was read in Spanish (my translation) in an Internet Archive copy of 26 March 2026.

How to take it

How to take your Venezuela visa photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain white

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 30 × 40 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.

What the source confirms
  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Venezuela, «Manual de usuario — Cancillería Digital — Visa de turista» (Caracas, February 2026; Internet Archive copy of 26 March 2026; my translation): the manual guides foreign natural persons in transit or permanent migration condition to request a tourist visa through the Cancillería Digital portal; the documents («recaudos») are a carnet-size photo on a white background, the passport, the application form and the application letter — the first three marked with an asterisk as mandatory.
  • Same manual, the procedure: create the request at the Consular Relations Office; register the procedure; attach the documents; finish the procedure; issue the request; confirm the payment method; receive the notification of the approved procedure; the manual notes that the photo must be attached in image format and that the procedure can be finished only when the mandatory documents are attached.
