Key points

5 points
  1. The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry asks for a colour photo that matches your age.
  2. Width 35-40 mm; the face takes up 70-80 % of the photograph.
  3. Not older than 6 months, printed on high-quality paper.
  4. Plain light-coloured background, even light, no shadows or red eye.
  5. Neutral expression, mouth closed; no tinted lenses, heavy frames to be avoided.

For a Lithuanian Schengen visa you need a colour photo corresponding to your age. That is how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania lists it among the required documents, next to the application form, the travel document, the visa fee and supporting documents. The rules for the photo are in the Ministry's Annex A, Photograph Guidelines.

Size, age and quality

  • 35-40 mm in width.
  • A close-up of the head and top of the shoulders, so that the face takes up 70-80 % of the photograph.
  • No more than 6 months old.
  • In sharp focus and clear, high quality, no ink marks or creases.
  • Natural skin tones, the right brightness and contrast.
  • Printed on high-quality paper at high resolution; photos from a digital camera must be high-quality colour on photo-quality paper.

Pose, background and light

  • Looking directly at the camera, facing square on — not over one shoulder and not tilted; both edges of the face clearly shown.
  • Eyes open and clearly visible, no hair across them.
  • A plain light-coloured background, uniform light, no shadows or flash reflections on the face, no red eye.
  • Colour neutral.
  • Neutral expression, mouth closed.
  • You alone in the photo: no chair backs, toys or other people.

Glasses and head coverings

CaseRule
GlassesEyes clearly visible, no flash reflection, no tinted lenses; heavy frames to be avoided; the frame must not cover any part of the eyes
Head coveringNot permitted, except for religious reasons; the face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of the face clearly shown

Passport, fingerprints and timing

The travel document must be valid at least three months after you plan to leave the Schengen area, have at least two blank pages and be issued within the previous ten years. Under the EU Visa Code, fingerprints are taken in person at the first application and copied to later ones if first collected less than 59 months earlier; children under 12 are exempt. You apply no more than six months before the trip and, as a rule, no later than 15 calendar days before it.
