Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one
India-specific things to know
- The OCI photograph is square — 51 × 51 mm, 2 × 2 inch — and uploaded as a square file of 200 × 200 to 900 × 900 pixels, so a passport-format rectangle does not fit.
- The FAQ says the background is a plain light colour «(not white)»; the Photo Specifications PDF says a plain light-coloured background.
- The same 200 KB JPEG/JPG limit applies to the photograph and to the signature image, and the head is 25–35 mm tall in the 51 mm frame.

What the source confirms
- Online OCI Services, FAQ question 9: the photograph uploaded with the application should be square, not less than 51 × 51 mm (with 80 % coverage of the face), with a plain light colour background (not white) without the border, a front view of the head and shoulders with the full face in the middle; the height and width must be equal; the minimum dimensions are 200 × 200 pixels and the maximum 900 × 900 pixels; the images of the photograph and the signature must be JPEG/JPG with a maximum size of 200 KB; photographs that do not conform will be rejected and may delay the application.
- OCI Photo Specifications PDF, print and pose: the photograph in colour at 2 inch × 2 inch (51 mm × 51 mm), clear and with a continuous-tone quality; full face, front view, eyes open; the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin; the head centred in the frame; a plain light-coloured background with no distracting shadows on the face or on the background; head coverings not permitted except for religious reasons, with the facial features from the bottom of the chin to the top of the forehead and both edges of the face clearly shown; a natural expression.
