What these millimetres work out to

Do not confuse it with another India document

India does not use one frame for everything. This page is about pan card — 25 × 35 mm. The documents below are cut to a different size, so a file prepared here will not fit them.

For upload the file must stay under 50 KB — after cropping, save as JPEG and check the size.

What cropping will not fix

Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one

ReasonFix
Photo not 25×35mm (2.5×3.5 cm) Reprint at PAN-specific smallest size
Pixel dimensions not 197×276 at 200 DPI Resize to exact NSDL spec
JPEG file outside 20-50KB Re-encode within strict range
Photo stapled or clipped (must be PASTED) Reattach with glue/paste only
Wall/curtain/outdoor background Re-shoot against plain white/light backdrop in studio

Where these numbers come from

What the source confirms
  • Protean's PAN FAQ says individual applicants must affix two recent colour photographs with a white background.
  • The official PAN FAQ states the photo size as 3.5 cm × 2.5 cm.
  • The photographs should not be stapled or clipped to the PAN form.
  • The applicant must sign across the photograph on the left side so part of the signature appears on the photo and part on the form.
