Kazakhstan-specific things to know

Kazakhstan prefers a grey background and says a blue one is not recommended — medium grey for light hair, light grey for dark hair — not the white of many other countries.
The portal gives a digital standard of 413 × 531 pixels, up to 30 KB and 24-bit depth, and a print standard of matte paper at 300 dpi or more from one negative.
A photograph in uniform is refused, and so are images made by scanning, computer modelling or photocopying.
At the registration point (RP DRN) the photograph is taken on the spot free of charge, so nothing has to be printed; only the paper route asks for two prints of 3.5 × 4.5 cm.

egov.kz, requirements to photographs of identity documents: the photograph is made no later than 6 months before the submission of the documents; it is made by photo printing from one negative on thick photographic paper, full face on a light background, with a neutral expression and a closed mouth; images made by computer scanning, modelling or photocopying are not allowed; a photograph of a person in uniform is not allowed.
Same page, size and face: the photograph is 45 mm high and 35 mm wide; the features are clearly shown from the lowest point of the chin to the crown and from the far-left line of the face to the far-right line; the face occupies 70–80 % of the photograph, i.e. 32–36 mm from the chin to the crown; with thick hair the height to the highest point of the head follows the same requirements, and where the top of the head is hard to determine 27–40 mm is allowed; with a lot of hair the head, hairstyle included, is shown in full.
