What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: white
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glare on the lenses. Take the glasses off or turn away from the light source and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 307 × 378 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.

- Ministerio del Interior requires a recent colour face photograph for DNI first issue and renewal.
- The DNI photo size is stated as 32 × 26 mm in Spanish official wording; on this page the same portrait format is shown as 26 × 32 mm (width × height).
- The DNI photo must use a uniform plain white background and be taken from the front.
- The head must be fully uncovered, except documented religious or medical cases that keep the facial oval visible.
- Dark glasses and anything that prevents or hinders identification are not allowed; corrective glasses are acceptable only if the eyes remain visible.
