Belarus-specific things to know

  • Even light background — the regulation names neither white nor grey
  • Head 32 to 35 mm chin-to-crown (chin to end of hairline), with 2 to 3 mm of free margin above it
  • No headwear, no uniform, no dark sunglasses (except for the visually impaired)
  • Being phased out as Belarus transitions to biometric ID card
  • Same 40×50mm Belarusian size standard

How passport photos are verified

Belarus internal passport (RB passport) photos are administered by MVD Belarus (Ministry of Internal Affairs) under annex 1 to Resolution No. 251 of 12 July 2024. The print template is 40×50mm on an even light background under front-top-side lighting, strictly full face.

The head measures 32 to 35 mm chin-to-crown — from the chin to the end of the hairline — with a free margin of 2 to 3 mm above the head. No headwear, no uniform and no dark (sun)glasses, except for people with a visual impairment; the image must match the applicant’s age at the time of filing.

The regulation names no background colour, no number of photographs and no maximum photo age; Belarusian consular guidance separately requires the photograph to be no older than 6 months when the application is filed abroad. The internal passport is the primary Belarusian document for domestic identification — being gradually replaced by the biometric ID card.

How to take it

How to take your Belarus passport photo correctly

Background and light

Background: plain light

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 64–70 % of the photo height (32–35 mm)

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 40 × 50 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
