Tunisia-specific things to know

  • Tunisia asks for three photographs of the «¾ cm» format on a white or light background, at a «scale of 1/10», showing the face and the eyes — the same list for the first card, the renewal, a change and a loss.
  • The card is filed at the local police or national guard post and takes 15 days; a lost card costs a fiscal stamp of 25 dinars.

How ID card photos are verified

For the Tunisian national identity card the Ministry of the Interior asks, for the first card, the renewal, a change of data and a lost or damaged card alike, for «three identity photos of the format ¾ cm, taken from the front on a white or light background and at a scale of 1/10, showing the face and the eyes». A first card (from 18 years) also takes the signed administrative form, a birth extract of at most 3 months, proof of Tunisian nationality, a residence attestation, a work or school attestation and the fiscal stamp; minors under 18 add the guardian's legalised authorisation; a renewal takes a copy of the old card, whose original is handed over at collection; a lost card takes a loss declaration and a fiscal stamp of 25 dinars. The file goes to the police or national guard post of the place of residence and the card is ready within 15 days of filing. The page gives no head size in millimetres, expression or glasses rule; the footer dates from 2013.

How to take it

How to take your Tunisia ID card photo correctly

Background and light

Background: white or light

The tool puts in the required background. Stand half a metre from a plain light wall, face a window and shoot without flash — then there are no shadows on your face or on the wall.

Framing

Head: 70–80 % of the photo height

Camera at eye level, about a metre away; head and shoulders in the shot. The tool crops it to 30 × 40 mm.

Glasses

Clear lenses only, no glare

If you wear glasses, check the shot: no glare on the lenses, eyes clearly visible.

Expression and gaze

Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open

Look straight into the lens with your head level; keep hair away from your eyes and eyebrows.
