What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: plain light background
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glare on the lenses. Take the glasses off or turn away from the light source and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 413 × 531 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.

- § 5 ust. 1 pkt 3 of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of 5 August 2025 on issuing documents authorising the driving of vehicles (Dz.U. 2025 poz. 1073, in force since 7 August 2025) requires the applicant to submit «kolorową fotografię o wymiarach 35 × 45 mm, wykonaną na jednolitym jasnym tle, mającą dobrą ostrość oraz odwzorowującą naturalny kolor skóry, obejmującą wizerunek od wierzchołka głowy do górnej części barków, tak aby twarz zajmowała 70–80 % fotografii».
- The same provision requires the photo «pokazującą wyraźnie oczy, zwłaszcza źrenice, i przedstawiającą osobę w pozycji frontalnej, bez nakrycia głowy i okularów z ciemnymi szkłami, patrzącą na wprost z otwartymi oczami nieprzesłoniętymi włosami, z naturalnym wyrazem twarzy i zamkniętymi ustami».
- The photo must be recent: «fotografia powinna być wykonana nie wcześniej niż 6 miesięcy przed dniem złożenia wniosku o wydanie prawa jazdy lub pozwolenia».
- A digital file may be supplied instead of a print: «dopuszcza się załączanie zdjęcia wykonanego techniką cyfrową zapisanego na zewnętrznym nośniku danych». The gov.pl page «Zdjęcie do prawa jazdy» specifies that file as «rozdzielczość zdjęcia: 480×615 pikseli» and «plik nie może być większy niż 100 KB».
- Dark lenses and head coverings are allowed only as documented exceptions: dark lenses require a disability certificate for a congenital or acquired sight defect, and a religious head covering requires «zaświadczenie o przynależności do wspólnoty wyznaniowej zarejestrowanej w Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej», with the face fully visible.
- The applicant supplies the photo. The application form annexed to the regulation carries the field «Fotografia o wymiarach: 35 x 45 mm» and the declaration «Składam następujące załączniki … a) fotografię o wymiarach 35 x 45 mm».
- For the exchange of a foreign driving licence issued by a state party to the road-traffic conventions — the route Ukrainian licence holders use — § 14 ust. 1 of the regulation has the authority act «po otrzymaniu od osoby: a) wniosku o wydanie prawa jazdy lub pozwolenia, b) dowodu uiszczenia opłaty za wydanie prawa jazdy, c) fotografii, o której mowa w § 5 ust. 1 pkt 3, d) kopii posiadanego prawa jazdy wraz z tłumaczeniem na język polski». The photo is received from the applicant, not captured at the office.
