What we fix for free, and what AI fixes
Fixed for free
- Background. Replaced with the one this document asks for: uniform light background with even lighting.
- Head tilt. Straightened if the head leans slightly to one side.
- Frame. Exactly 35 × 45 mm, by the document’s rules.
- A light shadow on one side of the face. Gently brightened.
- File and print sheet. A file to the document’s rules and a 10 × 15 or A4 sheet to print.
What can't be fixed for free, AI correction fixes
- Hard shadows and uneven light on the face.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 413 × 531 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.
- Clothing and pose. Shoulders out of frame, body turned away from the camera.
Glare on the lenses. Take the glasses off or turn away from the light source and shoot again.
Why these photos get rejected — and how to fix each one
Poland-specific things to know
- The two Polish pages differ slightly on the background: the passport page of the voivodeship office says «uniform light», the gov.pl page says «white, evenly lit, without shadows or decoration» — a plain white background satisfies both.
- Adults hand in a printed 35 × 45 mm photo at the office; the electronic file (at least 768 × 1004 pixels, up to 2.5 MB) is described only for a child under 12 who is applied for online.
- Poland is relaxed on some points that others forbid: the ears need not be visible, the hairstyle may extend beyond the photo edge, and corrective glasses and contact lenses are allowed — but a photo that does not meet the rules means the application will not be accepted.
Printing on a single sheet
4 × 2 frames fit on one 10×15 cm sheet — 8 copies from a single print.
Print at 100% scale, borderless, and turn off fit-to-page so each photo keeps its exact size.

What the source confirms
- Pomorski Voivodeship Office, «Passport photo» (translated from the Polish): the photograph attached to the passport application has dimensions of 35 × 45 mm; is taken on a uniform light background with even lighting; has good sharpness; reproduces the natural skin colour; shows the image from the crown of the head to the upper part of the shoulders so that the face takes up 70–80 % of the photograph; shows the person in a frontal position with vertical symmetry; is taken no earlier than 6 months before the day the application is submitted.
- Same page, the person: looks straight ahead and has a natural expression, closed mouth, a face not covered by hair, visible eyebrows, eyes and pupils; is shown without a head covering and without dark glasses. Exceptions: a person with an eye defect may supply a photo with dark glasses (a disability certificate is required); a person wearing a head covering according to their religion may supply a photo with it if the face is fully visible (a certificate of membership of a religious community registered in Poland is required). A child up to 5, a person with a disability certificate, or a person whose health does not allow the requirements may not meet them. A photograph that does not meet the requirements means the application for a passport will not be accepted (art. 45 of the Act on passport documents).
- Gov.pl, «Photo for an ID card or passport», glasses, beard, jewellery and face: corrective glasses are allowed if the eyes are well visible, the frames do not cover the eyebrows and no light is reflected in the lenses; contact lenses are allowed if they do not change the natural shape and colour of the eyes; dark glasses are allowed only for a congenital or acquired vision defect, with a disability certificate attached; a beard or moustache is allowed if it does not hinder recognition (to avoid problems, shave); a head covering required by religion is allowed if the face is still visible, with a certificate of a community registered in Poland attached, and the whole face oval and the line of the ears must be uncovered; jewellery is allowed if it does not cover the face oval or disturb the uniform background (to avoid problems, take the photo without jewellery).
- Gov.pl, pose, background and quality: the face points straight at the camera lens, the head is not tilted, the face oval is visible (no half-profile), natural expression, closed mouth and uncovered eyebrows; the eyes naturally open, well visible with the pupils and pointing at the lens; red eyes are not allowed; the ears need not be visible and the hairstyle may extend beyond the edge of the photo; the background white, evenly lit, without shadows and decorative elements; the face evenly lit (no reflections on skin or hair, no shadows on the face); only the photographed person in the picture; sharp (without visible pixels), natural contrast, a clear head outline (an overexposed background is not allowed), neutral colours and a suitable tonal density (neither too light nor too dark), no creases or other damage, natural skin colour. If a correct photo shows closed eyes or an open mouth because of illness, an accident or physical features, the office may accept it.
- Gov.pl, format for a passport: if you apply at an office, attach a colour photo on paper in the 35 × 45 mm format (width × height) — bring the printed photo to the office; if you apply online, which is for a child who has not turned 12, attach a colour photo in electronic form of a minimum resolution of 768 × 1004 pixels and a maximum size of 2.5 MB, keeping the proportions of a 35 mm × 45 mm photograph (width × height). For an ID card online the minimum is 492 × 633 pixels and 2.5 MB. Children up to 5: the child may have closed eyes, an open mouth or an unnatural expression, the face uncovered (not hidden by hair or a toy), the head held straight, a light uniform background and no other people in the frame. Legal basis: the Act of 27 January 2022 on passport documents.
