What cropping will not fix
- A wrong background — cropping does not repaint the wall behind you. This document needs: white
- A shadow on the face or on the wall. Step 1–2 m away from the wall and shoot facing a window.
- Glasses in the frame. This document does not accept them at all — take them off and shoot again.
- A smile, raised brows or a half-open mouth. Cropping keeps the face it was given.
- Too few pixels. If the original is smaller than 413 × 531 px, enlarging it only blurs the face.

Where these numbers come from

- ICP lists a coloured personal photo with a white background among the general required documents for visa issuance.
- ICP states that the passport copy used for visa issuance should be valid for more than 6 months.
- ICP describes tourist and visit visa stays as commonly ranging from 30 to 90 days, with other visa categories using different durations.
- Approved ICP photo standards require a recent high-quality image with a white background and clear facial features and eyes.
- Shadows, reflections, hats and sunglasses are not accepted; only medical glasses are permitted if they do not cover the eyes.
